Volunteer delivery drivers are vital in delivering healthy food to our home-bound clients. Delivery drivers pick up food at our facility in Forestville and deliver to about 5-7 clients per delivery route. We have delivery routes across Sonoma County, so we may be able to find a route near where you live!
We especially need help on Tuesday delivering to our housebound clients living in Petaluma.
If you are willing to get involved, please reach out to Liv at: LivC@FFTfoodbank.org or

Our volunteer driver, Sandy, has been an active and integral part of the Food For Thought community since 2007! Over the years, Sandy has helped in many different capacities and has offered her time and energy by picking up in-kind donations from local farms, helping collect food and funds at local Food Drive events, offers her handwriting skills for our thank you mailings, and she even served as a board member in 2009. Sandy continues to help serve our homebound clients every week living in the Petaluma area.
Sandy shares, “The ease and joy of volunteering is increased by the kindness and incredible support of the amazing staff at the food bank. They have such passion for nourishing those in our community who are ill. The joy in their effort is contagious, encouraging all of us who volunteer.”
Are you interested in “trying on” a Food Drive? Sign up for a Saturday training day! Food Drive Coordinator, Amanda, will be on site to orient and train new volunteers!

Stress In Our Lives Studies continue to show that moderate amounts of stress in our lives can actually improve our physical and mental health as we age. This applies to the stress our bodies experience through exercise but also the kind of mental or emotional stress of tasks to accomplish or the pressure of challenges. Of course, too much stress can have the opposite effect, impacting us negatively. You can read a great article about these findings here. A short TED talk by one of the major researchers in this area can be found here.

In 2023 we will achieve 40 years of HIV prevention and support in Sonoma County. F2F began as a grassroots movement of caring and compassionate people who came together to provide love and support for people living with, and dying from, AIDS. Over the years our work has evolved and is currently more important than ever.
We’ve had a chance to reflect on the lessons of the pandemic and make strategic decisions about how to best serve our community in the future. We went out into the community and determined a real need to reach those that are most vulnerable. With specific goals in mind, we embarked on our very first capital campaign to raise funds for a mobile van.
Soon, we will be launching our all-electric mobile van which will enable us to expand both our prevention and care services. While our van is being retrofitted for our specific needs, our care and prevention teams are hard at work getting ready to put their plans in motion.
With our new van we will be able to provide the following services remotely:
HIV Testing
Prescribe PrEP, the daily pill to prevent HIV
Harm Reduction including Syringe Exchange
Provide Naloxone Kits to reverse overdoses
Meet clients to assist with financial support, case management, legal & medical advocacy and more
But in order for us to expand these programs, we need the support of people like YOU! With your contributions, we can end HIV in Sonoma County. We can help reduce the number of overdoses in Sonoma County. And we can find housing for clients and provide them with what they need to thrive.
We invite you to join us as we take our work on the road and help us to be certain that we begin from the strongest position possible.
Will you contribute to this effort today? We truly appreciate your support of our work through the years. If you have already given this year, a heartfelt Thank You

The Sebastopol Area Senior Center is pleased to say that we can add additional LBGT+ services, thanks to the Community Foundation of Sonoma County and its commitment to increasing the mental health and wellness of local residents.
“The Community Foundation recognized that formal counseling services is not the only way to increase people’s mental health. Many counselors suggest participating in positive social activities as one way of improving your sense of well-being. The Senior Center offers many opportunities for people to participate in positive social activities, so we are a natural partner. The Community Foundation was also looking for organizations that support “Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, plus” (LGBT+) communities and again the Senior Center came to mind. With a one-time seed grant, the Senior Center will expand our LGBT+ programming starting with a monthly potluck and movie night, starting in January. (Look for the exact dates in our weekly E-Blasts and on our website.) We are still analyzing additional activities, including a book club, hiking and potential game nights. Send your ideas and enthusiasm to Scott King at scotty@sebastopolseniorcenter.org. We are very happy to be inviting more people who identify as LGBT+ to our supportive programs that help people feel the comfort of a caring community. Thank you, Community Foundation, and we look forward to welcoming many more people to experience our mixers, support groups, LGBT+ blog and other resources.”

FYI Hello LGBT+ Friends, Neighbors and Allies, When I started this blog, I included all of my LGBT+ friends and allies here in the Sonoma County area, and we have added many more folks since then. I write this blog to let you know of the valuable work I am doing here, as the LGBT+ Liaison for the Sebastopol Senior Center. I love my job and the important ways we bring folks together: Panel discussions, Monthly friendship mixers, Dances, Day trips, Garden tours, Pride events, Parades, Art shows, Hikes, Weekly zoom groups, and our Guided tour of the Castro. In this blog you will find information about what LGBT+ activities are happening here at your Center, and events and notices from around our county. Please hit “reply” at any time and let me know your thoughts, suggestions or even compliments are always welcome. Enjoy!
