Join the Sonoma County Library for in-person and virtual eventsthroughout the month of January, from Afro-Peruvian drumming workshops to author talks. All events are free and you don’t need a library card to attend; registration is required for select events. See some of our January events below! Kids & Families Learn about barn, screech, great horned, and burrowing owls at Seeds & Reads: All About Owls—then dissect a real owl pellet to discover what owls eat! For grades K-6. Advance registration required. Available at seven library locations: Northwest Santa Rosa, Rohnert Park-Cotati, Sebastopol, Petaluma, Roseland, Healdsburg, and Rincon Valley.Join North Bay Events for Family Trivia at the library. Play for free and have fun with the whole family—and earn prizes if you win! For grades K-8. Get your trivia on at two library locations: Healdsburg and Central Santa Rosa. Teens Experience the history, culture, and societal impact of hip hop on Tuesday, January 17, at 4:00 pm! Join us at the Rohnert Park-Cotati Library for live and interactive presentations focused on historic and current examples of hip hop’s founding principles: peace, love, unity, and fun. North Bay Trivia always brings the fun and now they’ve added an audio round, taking the party to the next level! Test your memory skills and win prizes. For grades 7-12. Available at two library locations: Sebastopol and Rincon Valley. All Ages Experience live cultural performances at your libraries! Enjoy lion dancing from the Sonoma Vietnamese Association, dragon dancing by the Redwood Empire Chinese Association, and Afro-Peruvian Cajón Drumming workshopswith the Tradición Peruana Cultural Center. Adults Don’t miss the Gravenstein Mandolin Ensemble‘s entertaining and eclectic performances at two library locations: Windsor Library: Saturday, January 7, at 2:00 pm Guerneville Library: Saturday, January 21, at 2:00 pm Virtual EventsAdvance registration required for all virtual events in order to receive a Zoom link. Join local historian John Patrick Sheehy on Wednesday, January 25, at 7:00 pm for part two of the popular series, The Real Main Street. Part II focuses on Petaluma’s early Irish, Black, and German communities, whose contributions made Petaluma’s Main Street a bustling melting pot of commerce, community, and celebration.Join us on Tuesday, January 31, at 11:00 am for what is sure to be the most fun-filled hour of the day as we chat with Randall Munroe about his new book, What If? 2: Additional Serious Scientific Answers to Absurd Hypothetical Questions.Looking for more?
